It rather irks me when this type of thing happens. Firstly, the church is a very rich body and secondly, this stinks of poor planning. The woman interviewed expresses no surprise that after 60 years of near continual use it's obviously beginning to show signs of wear, so why wasn't money salted away routinely in a fund for future repairs?

I wonder if there's been a maintenance plan for it over the years; it wouldn't have been cheap when it was bought.

I'm guessing that it has just been run into the ground, Lex; it really goes against the grain with me. I used to have to budget and plan for this type of thing, I'm quite sure that the church could do similar.
