To be honest, I haven't really been following this story, but from what I have been paying attention to, the police had a tough decision and the law, public, politicians and media mostly seem to be of the opinion that they made the right one:

The police do a very difficult job. Despite the media bashing that they regularly receive, I still support them all the way. There are bad eggs in all walks of life, they are bound to have a few.

I wonder what would've happened if they hadn't taken the action they did that day? Would we have had a funeral for a couple of police officers?
