 Social workers dealing with children

I believe that social workers dealing with children and young teens. should have been parents themselves before being launched upon the system.
As with the government we talked about in another thread where the MPs haven't a clue how ordinary folk live and survive, I cannot see how young girls-and men, are capable of making decisions on such an important issue.. It can't be all learnt from textbooks. And yes I've had dealings with a good few, when and since I was into children's nursing.
(before I had my kids , I knew it all) Ilearnt the hard way.

Absolutely.

How can you possibly understand the trials and tribulations of bringing a family up if you've never done it yourself. Whilst I have nothing against youngsters entering these professions, they cannot possibly know as much as those that have been there, done it and got the T-shirt. We seem to put far too much emphasis on academic (laugh!) qualifications.

Mmm- Social Workers and Social Care Bill- more reforms.I stand to be corrected but only up to about 1 year ago there was no Professional register of Social Workers. To practice as a nurse , midwife or Doctor said people have to be registered and thus licensed to practice, I believe SWs have to have their exam but there doesn't seem to be a regulatory body monitoring standards for them. If anyone knows otherwise then please do educate me. I have seen so many SWs looking over so called cases where children are at the heart of and subject to dysfunctional parenting that is toxic for them that the actions taken to protect said vulnerable innocents are often lame and after the event. The damage is thus already done. I am on the perimeters of one such case right now. The liars that are the 'parents' (actually the Mother is the biological bearer of the 3 children) her headcase husband is new to the fold and He brought with him a set of bazaar values and beliefs that these children are so disturbed they were removed for a period to live with another former 'husband' whilst 'assessments' were being made but on the Mother's application to have them back they were returned. Neither parent works and now this new husband is spending time at one of HM's prisons. SWs are 'on the case'.
