Views sought on plans to pedestrianise Leamington's Parade

PLANS are afoot to pedestrianize Parade in Leamington.

The Parade Masterplan seeks to transform the pivotal town centre street into a traffic-free space to give Leamington a major economic and cultural boost.

The proposal has been drawn up by the Leamington Transformation Board, made up of representatives from Warwickshire County Council, Warwick District Council, and Leamington Town Council.

They are now urging residents, businesses and visitors to give their views during an eight-week engagement exercise running until Monday July 28.

They make these pointless plans and still to date have not made good the loose paving slabs in the town , all they way from top to bottom you will find loose paving slabs and keep having to watch not to trip.

Although the Parade being pedestrianised looks all very pretty in theory, I don't think it is going to be practical.... as you may have seen from the photo of their future proposals. it looks to me like death to the shops there, no buses to stop outside the shops. Instead, I can imagine street cafe's and a nice little meeting hub for yobs at night , to cause damage to trees etc.. drinking and drug dealing. Also I can imagine annoying cyclists weaving in and out of pedestrians making it very unpleasant walking up and down there.

I'll be interested to know where the buses into town will be re-routed. Last time they closed off the Parade we had to cross over the busy Kenilworth Road at the top of the town. And there was a temporary bus stop which we had to use to get back to our destination, you can't just go running across that road unless you play chicken with the traffic.

It'll be another waste of money, making people's lives just a little more difficult.

They say that the majority of respondents were in favour of the pedestrianisation. Which I think that is a fantastic porky!

Just look at the amount of paving slabs from top to bottom of the parade, and the proposed trees they illustrate planted down the centre ! `Haven't they thought of the eventual growth of the tree roots and the possible uprooting the paving slabs. They haven't even attempted fixing the existing cracked and loose slabs up and down the town . its all nuts! A squirrel has more brains.
And where its the plan for the bus routes. and all the diverted traffic.

Kids are going to love the plan as they can zoom up and down the parade on their scooters or bikes, weaving in an out of pedestrians.
