Tributes to 'pillar of Nuneaton community' who dedicated 75 years of his life to church

He was also well known on the local sporting circuit as a former Warwickshire Football Association referee, played cricket for the Co-op and Sterling Metals and was a keen golfer.

Tributes have been paid to a 'pillar of Nuneaton's community' who dedicated 75 years of his life to a local church. Maurice Beasley, who sadly died on October 10, aged 91, first attended Heath End Wesleyan Reform Church in 1950, aged 16.

He went on to become a key figure there at the Heath End Road church. Maurice, of Holsworthy Close, was a long-serving Trustee and member of the local church, a popular local preacher and in 1989 became national president of the Wesleyan Reform Union (WRU).

George Phillips, WRU’s current president, led a number of glowing tributes to him, saying: ''Maurice was a friendly, caring and devoted servant of God and I was sorry to hear of his death.

''He served the Wesleyan Reform Union on its General Committee for 15 years and was elected President of the Union in 1989, leading with integrity through a difficult time.''
