 Favourite Stratford Restaurant?

Hi all,

I was wondering what everyone's favourite restaurant in Stratford is? I'm currently enjoying Chutneys, which do some amazingly good Indian food. I'm always up for new tastes though, anyone else have a personal favourite?

I love Indian Food! Where's Chutneys though? I haven't heard of that one. I go to Lambs on Sheep Street sometimes, it's a bit hit and miss though, it's either excellent of very average.

I have a friend who is a chef at Lambs, most the time anyway. They get moved around between Lambs, The Oppo, and now the Vintner. All owned by the same person I believe.

I'm sure he'd be interested in the feedback. :)

Now that Lambs owns the Vintner why is the food (basically the same) more expensive in the Vintner? Is it something to do with the black clad waitresses in the Vintner... ?

That could well be the case, lol. I used to go to the Vintner every lunchtime, until they got rid of the cinema seats surrounding that large Oak table. It was really socialble back then, it's lost its appeal since. All because they wanted to make the bar a bit bigger!

The Thai Boathouse is (or was) a really good restaurant. Unfortunately, there was a fire there last year and it's been closed since. I wonder if it's going to reopen...

Another REALLY GOOD restaurant is the Baraset Barn, a couple of miles out of Stratford on the way to Wellesbourne. The food and service are both fantastic, and you always get a warm welcome there.

On the other hand, The Ferry in Alveston is a bit of a disappointment. The landlord seems to be a miserable little so-and-so who doesn't seem to be familiar with the concept of customer service (service with a sneer!)

I had my eye on that restaurant when I stayed for a week at the youth hostel on the left side of that main road, in October last year,(there was a reason) in case the food at the hostel was awful. But luckily didn't need it. The dining room and food at the hostel was excellent.

Ooh you're all talking about places I miss. I don't know the restaurants though just the villages and some of the local jaunts. My son played Rugby for Wellesbourne when he was at college and went back last weekend to watch but ended up being roped in to play flanker for them- they lost but had a great game.

I've dropped into the YHA just outside Stratford for something to eat a couple of times recently. It's really good, basic pub grub food - really good at £7.50 for a main course!

I'd definitely recommend the Baraset Barn if you're over that way, and even if you're not! I'm a semi-regular there nowadays, I like it so much.

We were in Stratford on Tuesday for a day out and decided to lunch in Church St. Townhouse Restaurant as we have never been in there before , the main meal portions served to us was ridiculously meagre for the price they charged, it didn't even touch the sides. Though it was presentable and quite tasty, I won't be going in there again. I wouldn't mind paying £12 if it was a decent portion, but that was a rip-off.

Later on we fancied a milkshake and went into a newish place called
Hooray's British Gelato Kitchen, where they specialise in ice cream and milkshakes , they were absolutely delicious! The best I've had in many years.
