We used to go to Gloucestershire a lot when I was a stripling, and I always found the industrial heritage of the Gloucester-Sharpness canal fascinating, especially the Purton Hulks: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/news-and-views/media-centre/filming-and-photography/our-filming-and-photography-locations/purton-hulks-gloucester-and-sharpness-canal

I've got a mate who was responsible for sinking dozens of old canal craft in the 60s. They were towed out to a deep ex-quarry and holed. I believe that since then the link to the quarry has been filled in and built on. You just don't know what's under your house.
