As someone who lived out of hotels for about 2 years I could tell some real tales. Many hotels are a bl**dy disgrace. From the comments on this one, it seems minor to what I saw.

IIRC, that was originally the De Vere hotel, and it was very upmarket. I used to use the bar with my mates in the late 70s.
The brutalistic outside architecture hasn't aged well.
