Dear All, I am growing increasingly infuriated that IB is one given any 'air' time to voice his needs and two that he actually believes he has a right to do so. He is devoid of compassion, remorse or simple human decency. He's being allowed to talk about what he wants and what he needs and we're paying for this privilege in the interest of Justice. Its time we stopped pussy footing around with people of his ilk and just keep them locked away so we in society can get on with trying to live our lives with out the intrusion of voices such as his. If he had been caught in the beginning of his evil killing spree which he freely said yesterday was an ' existential experience ', and not pronounced criminally insane, he would have been hung end of story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment_in_the_United_Kingdom If he is now found to be sane- that takes the biscuit, the michael etc etc out of our legal system. Well said Margaret. At least they are recognising 'the man' is not normal and have returned him to Ashworth. He would have been hung though if he was 'sane' as they did those terrible things between 1963 and 1965. He escaped the noose by reason of insanity. Under British Law you cannot be deemed responsible for your actions if you are not in your right mind. The definition of insanity is one that many Judges and Psychiatrists have argued over. He stated quite clearly that the acts were pleasurable enjoyment. To me that is pure evil sadism not insanity but then who am I? Hindley may well have been this half of the equation in the Moors Murders. On from this and onto what you say Margaret- Capital Punishment in concept is just deserts in my mind. However, as mere mortals, I don't believe we should descend to the taking of life and the job of doing so would be a terrible one. The victims' families might gain satisfaction from it but nothing will bring back their loved ones and that satisfaction may be short lived. Once its over its over. Perhaps knowing an individual has no liberty for the rest of his or her life is a bitter sweet revenge and only if life means life. |

I just watched ITV This Morning's opening discussion. They were saying John Venables is up for parole. James Bulger's Father gave evidence against his parole at the board but will only be told 60 minutes before the event if he's free again. What justice is that to the victim's family? I said above ' Perhaps knowing an individual has no liberty for the rest of his or her life is a bitter sweet revenge and only if life means life. ' and it does seem to ring true. If you take life then the sentence should mean Life for life. |
