How often do you hear of people preparing for job interviews, putting their CV together, putting effort into presentation etc, arriving for the interview and never hearing another word? Once you might brush aside, but I am hearing that it is becoming a regular behaviour. Perhaps some of these people could do with being unemployed and spending hours in the above activities only to be rebuffed by any lack of acknowledgement after the interview. Not even a letter thanking them for coming in followed by the fact that they haven't been successful, even a generic letter! But no, it seems to be too much effort. It's rather like, the world is their oyster and so they don't have to bother with little niceties such as a response, after all, if the applicant doesn't like it there are x amount more at the other side of the door.

Perhaps I expect too much in today's world and I am being too cynical, but I honestly feel that acknowledgement of the effort put in by the applicant before and upon presenting themselves for an interview is really important.

I know someone who filled in a form for a job=-professional- on line as specified. A form so long, as most of them are --which took about 5 hours.
Late after asking for feedback about why he did not even get an interview, was told because he did it on line.
The same job came up3 weeks later - the successful applicant had changeed his/ her mind. My friend was asked to reapply ==-which he did.TWO MINUTES later he had a refusal- with 3 days deadline to go. When it was queried, was told "we have decided on someone and didn't want to bother looking any more.
Also many jobs are already taken by internals--proof when you find out who got the job.

Too often, the job applicants are being treated shoddily. If they are one of an ever growing army that have been made redundant, perhaps in restructuring or even one of the many companies that have been closed down or gone into receivership, that in itself places a tremendous amount of stress upon the individuals. Having to call in and sign in regularly to have boxes ticked and be part of the statistics and be spoken to by someone with a strict limit on the time and who doesn't appear to be listening is not only daunting but frustrating. Many are struggling to find meaningful employment and being rebuffed time and time again, it all takes its toll.

In today's world of computer technology a great many of these people are computer literate and internet savvy. You might find a job and, oh dear, "Sorry this job has expired". It comes as an insult when these tools are used on a daily basis and the sign in centre wants to send you on a day course to show you how to use these facilities, proving, that they are not listening.

As for internal job applicants, yes, you are right. I am not sure, but I *think* they are obligated to advertise, but in reality before that job has been posted anywhere, the position has been filled by someone internally and it might well be because that person's current job has been streamlined out of existance.

I find it deplorable the way some employers feel they can ignore applicant and not even go to the trouble or sending a reply. It's a real shoddy way to treat people. The applicants don't know what's going on, and it must be very stressful. Above all it's just common manners, and it seems to be increasingly the norm for people to simply ignore applications and applicants all togther.
