Well Lex, according to the figures I've just seen, 1976 is still warmer for the July monthly average. Mind you, we're only halfway through the month so that may change a little.

Well, The BBC weather report just said its cooling down to 24 on Saturday and rising to just 27 on Sunday with Monday standing at 26. I rather like the 30- 32 degrees we're having at the moment. Its almost too good to expect it to last which they say it will until next week. Then what? Snow!

I agree, Cathidaw. I have thought daily about people working in industries where the heat from the weather is compromising them as their work place and work is hot. I spoke to a person who is in the manufacturing industry with metal presses and stuff. He said , he'd hate to be on the shop floor in this heat. With the Government now saying that if heat reaches 30 degrees for ? how ever many consecutive days that staff should be sent home, he said his industry would suffer to die point. If this is so- how many others would? His is a multimillion pound successful private business. What do they do in Europe, The Middle East and the Far East?- Answer- they take time out for Siesta etc and go back to work at night. I thought we had flexible working- can't we do this too? Every thing here is wrapped up in legislation, there's little about being practical and very hardly anything about being flexible.The flexible working is about working around families and working parents but why can't it be extended to the weather? The snow stopped much but if we just applied some common sense- life would be far easier to cope with,. England- it wouldn't happen anywhere else!

Gladys, I think the old WW1 expression, "Lions led by donkeys" still applies to the UK today.
