I've been seeing in the news that less and less Cuckoos are migrating from Africa for the summer, and we're in danger of losing them all together. I'm not sure why this is, but their numbers are dwindling.

I usually hear one at some point during the summer. Luckily I finally heard a Cuckoo calling last night at around 6:00pm, although it was quite distant it's call was unmistakable. It's such a unique and beautiful sound, I really do hope they find out how they can reverse the decline of this unique bird.

Will, they are on thier hols, here on Hayling Island in Hampshire. I say the same for Woodpeckers of all varieties. Hayling is a haven for many species. If you have a penchant for bird and wildlife watching- come on down. :)
