Sadly, it's a bit of a cash cow for the government - a lot of insurance is compulsory (eg motor & employers liability), and it makes sense to take policies out on your home and for travel etc.

Not happy about insurance tax being increased. People ought be congratulated, not punished for looking out for themselves.
