Apparently there was a lot of voilence last year, and the police are threatening to step in if there's trouble this year: https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/local-news/atherstone-ball-games-future-risk-28409692

Someone always has to ruin the fun.

wHEN i WAS VERY YOUNG i WENT TO LIVE THERE FOR 3 YEARS.Schools had the afternoon off and most of the 'players' were miners. The Bluebell inn had a celebrity of some kind-possibly the owner of the chip shop whose husband was on the council or something.- to throw out shovels of hot pennies before it started for the kids. I never got one but heard they burnt your fingers. All the shops were boarded up. It was brutal then too-all fists and pit boots. They rang a bell for the kids to move before it started.

I haven't been online for over a week due to router issues
