Sonic boom also heard a bit further afield.

A sonic boom has been heard and felt by residents in London, Essex and Cambridge.

It is thought to have been caused by an RAF Typhoon fighter jet flying south over Cambridge.

A sonic boom is the sound associated with the shock waves created whenever an object travels through the air faster than the speed of sound.

Twitter user Guy Aglionby tweeted a graphic from aircraft tracker ADS-B Exchange which appeared to show a fighter jet travelling south from Lincolnshire.

Yes, Lex. I remember that one, I certainly heard it.

I've seen reports online that last night was a sonic boom as two Tornados were scrambled but I've not found the reports myself.

I remember a similar thing happening in Coventry a few months ago; no one seemed to know what it was then, either.

I didn't hear anything, though the dog had a few unexplained barks around that time.
