He'll only get a slap on the wrist.
I once had a radio stolen from my car. As far as I know the guilty party was never caught, but the grief it caused me was unbelievable. I was running around for weeks trying to get things sorted, and in the end I had to settle for a completely different radio unit to that stolen.
