Closing mental health facilities has (IMO) been a disaster. Care in the community has failed; we see problems everywhere. Mental care homes may not have been universally popular, but the wider population were kept safe. - I worked at one such place for a while, to think that the people I saw there were released into the wider population scares the Hell out of me.
