However, Coventry council (for their own reasons) made a policy decision against pursuing those that didn't register. Be interesting to see what the new scheme changes. What changes have been made, is it the fact you can be fined, thus scaring people into registering even if they don't vote? Council sends a form to every property in the borough at the end of August each year. You are required by law to give the information asked for in this form. If you don't respond, or provide false information, you could be fined £5000. Although the law says you must register to vote, you don't have to vote at elections if you don't want to.
